The Risks of Slimming Tea Outweigh the Benefits
85The Benefits of Slimming Tea
There are a few health benefits of slimming tea, although the same benefits are found in pure teas such as green tea, white tea, black tea, wulong tea and others. It has been scientifically proven that tea contains antioxidants that aid in good health,
Teas also contain polyphenols that aid in the fat burning process, stimulating weight loss. Both pure teas and slimming teas contain these positive properties.
The Risks of Slimming Tea
Slimming tea has risks not associated with pure teas. In fact, according to most studies and most labeling of ingredients on the sides of slimming tea boxes, slimming tea is usually less than 25% tea. The other 75% of the so-called slimming tea, while hyped as all natural, is usually a combination of natural herbs, including natural laxatives.
One of the most common laxatives included in slimming tea is senna. While the senna content in slimming tea may be all natural, it is still a laxative. For that reason many people refer to the product as laxative tea. Therein lies the greatest risk. Laxatives should never be used as a diet supplement.
The risks of using laxative teas or slimming teas are so great that most packages correctly have warnings against their use by pregnant women.
As Seen Below, Even Pure Green Tea Can Have Side Effects
Side Effects of Slimming (Laxative) Tea
While it may seem that the person using the slimming tea product has lost a few pounds initially, it must be noted that the high laxative content acts as a diuretic, which can cause dehydration in a healthy person. Dehydration can lead to other side effects such as
- Fainting
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach Cramps
Among pregnant women it is possible for slimming laxative teas to cause miscarriage.
Additionally, the use of laxatives as a diet supplement may cause diarrhea initially. However, after prolonged use the human body can become dependent on the laxative. Without the laxative dosage the person will begin to suffer chronic constipation.
Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, and Slimming Teas
Of particular concern are the possible effects on those persons who suffer from anorexia nervosa or bulimia. Many people suffering from anorexia nervosa have been known to use laxatives as a diet tool, and to a lesser extent those suffering from bulimia.
Extended use of slimming laxative teas among these cohorts can cause death if there is no intervention. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that the consequences of prolonged use of these diet products can be deadly, especially for those who suffer from eating disorders.
Conclusion
The benefits of tea --- antioxidants and polyphenols --- can be found in pure tea. The ingredients that come under scrutiny most often are found in products hyped as "slimming teas" and possessing "slimming" properties that set them apart from regular teas.
It must be noted that the manufacturers and marketers of slimming tea products do not advertise their products as laxative teas. Obviously, they know that the product would sound less appealing to the consumer.
Slimming laxative teas possess the same benefits as pure teas, but pure teas do not possess the risks associated with laxative teas. The risks far outweigh any benefits found in slimming tea beverages or slimming tea pills.

wow...it can cause a miscarriage..never thought it could be that dangerous...
I use to drink slimming tea when I was younger, and at times it did cause some of the side effects that you mentioned. Now that I'm older I tend to be careful, and not take chances with things that give me the slightest discomfort. However I do drink green and regular tea. Very good hub!
Hi Jenna...great hub...my opinion is some of the slimming tea doesn't safe to drink...many people claim that slimming tea is herbs like...actually not neccessary...slimming tea differing in the quantity of slimming agent inside....however, thanks:)
I use an all natural slimming tea. I just checked and it is 100% tea. It's basically super concentrated green tea that works great. I will only drink suppliments that are 100% natural. It's called SlimZen Tea. http://www.slimzentea.com
I use SlimZen too. I'm very pleased with the results.
I tried slimzen and it caused chronic stomach pain. At first, I thought I had just eaten some bad tamales but soon I figured out it was the tea. Although I have stopped drinking the tea, I am still having issues with my stomach. My medical bills are adding up and I can't get the people at Slimzen to return my calls. What a scam!!!
I tried slim zen tea also. It gave me chronic diarrhea but the worst was irregular heart rhythm my doctor said it could be dangerous

My name is Jason Cannon and I own SlimZen Tea. The above negative comments are fraudulent and made by one person. This person has never been a customer of my company. My attorneys are in the process of contacting hubpages.com as well as Mrs. Jackson to have these comments removed. I assure you my product is all natural with zero side effects of any kind. If anyone actually had a problem with my company they would reveal their contact information. All my employees are paid on time and all commissions owed to them. If there is any doubt of this, I will be happy to put anyone I contact with several of my employees and customers. I can be contacted directly at jason@slimzentea.com.
After getting somewhat sick from the tea I ended up having it analyzed and the content report showed trace amounts of rat feces. I will only stick with reputable suppliers with known brands to provide me with any future products.
It's great to see a page dedicated to health and this subject. For any of you wishing to either start your own business as a distributor of healthy teas or those of you wishing to buy in bulk thus cutting out the middle man and saving on your purchases you can go to the following link:
I tried Slimz zen and ended up with cramps and skin issues. I tried to contact the company to return it but the line was disconnected.
I just drank slimming tea yesterday(it's my mom's)read the box and everything, didn't know it was that serious,my stomach started hurting really bad and I almost fainted.my stomach still hurts today!I wouldn't have taken it, thought it was just like any other tea
I gave the slim zin a week of my life and it tore my innards up. The tea had a bland taste (I think it was stale). I left it on the counter and saw some small bugs climb out. No quality control?

Hi Jenna, I see you are new, I am new too. I like your hub, but I thought tea was good for you. All those people tell us it is good. I don't think we can lose weight with it, but some people actually believe it. This actually not regular tea, it is a laxative and that is a whole different game.
Keep up the good work.
